Two new London cafés have joined the Udderly Kind oat-as-default trial: Catch, a sustainability-minded independent coffee shop on Sidcup High Street, and Coffee Lounge, a community-focused café in Woolwich's Equitable House. 

Both bring the campaign to two more corners of the capital, with co-owner Piotr and barista Nymh both framing the switch as a natural, low-risk next step for businesses already committed to doing things a little better. Read on for what they had to say, and how your own café could be next. 

Catch. 

Catch is a charming coffee shop and roaster located on Sidcup highstreet in East London. They're a small and welcoming business with a strong love for coffee and all the experiences it can give them.

They're all about doing their part for the planet. That's why they keep their packaging simple and use only recyclable or compostable materials. They don't believe in wasteful excess, so they've cut out the unnecessary fluff and kept it simple. Their coffee bags are made from recyclable and/or compostable materials, and so is the box they arrive in.

Choosing oat as default came naturally to them. We caught up with Piotr, one of the co-owners, who said:

"We are very excited about trying the trial. We are a small business and we want to grow, but we want to grow in the right way by making the right decisions. [...] We care about animals and the environment just as much and we haven't got it all figured out and we're on a journey and this feels like a natural next step. We're excited." 

Coffee Lounge 

Coffee Lounge provides the people of Woolwich and surrounds with everything from beautifully blended coffees to bountiful baguettes and pizza. 

The Coffee Lounge can be found in the magnificent old Equitable House building, overlooking the recently regenerated General Gordon Square in the heart of Woolwich. They pride themselves on being local and independent, providing an excellent and friendly service.

They’re open to new business ideas and moving forward with the times, Nymh, one of their talented baristas told us: 

'We're very open with trying new things. I don't know if you saw, but we have artists come in. We have little events that happen for the community. So, I think we just ended up doing it because it's an opportunity to try something new, and that's what Coffee Lounge does.'
