Thanks to your support and the damning evidence from our undercover investigation, three workers caught abusing calves at Oaklands Livestock Centre have pleaded guilty in court.
Following our private prosecution, the abusers were sentenced today at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court, proving that when we expose the truth, justice follows. This outcome shows that we will not be silenced, we will not tolerate their atrocious acts of cruelty, and we will continue fighting until animal agriculture is abolished.
But while this sends a strong message to the industry, we know that their punishment does not match their evil crimes. The violence these innocent calves endured can never be undone. The defendants – Joshua Whittall, John Challinor, and Kevin Arden – were fined £595, ordered to complete 160 hours of community service, and disqualified from keeping cows for life. Never again will these convicted animal abusers be responsible for the wellbeing of tiny calves.
The sentencing today marks the second prosecution resulting from the irrefutable footage, which was aired on BBC News, Mail Online, and more. It also previously led to the conviction of Oaklands Livestock Centre owner, Derek Whittall – father of one of the defendants. Derek was also banned from keeping cows for five years.
Oaklands Livestock Centre is no more. This win belongs to every single person who stood with us, donated, and refused to look away. We can’t thank you enough for your support, advocacy and activism. We must keep pushing forward. Every case we win brings us closer to dismantling animal agriculture’s vicious industry. With your help, we will take down more abusers, shut down more farms, and make it clear animal exploitation will not be tolerated.
Thank you for standing in solidarity with us. United, we have the ability to shape a future where animals are not treated as mere commodities, but as conscious beings deserving of love, compassion, and protection.
As always,
For the animals!
