We want to shut down gas chambers for good.

Did you know that 90% of British pigs are killed in gas chambers?

Most people don’t. In fact, in our newly commissioned YouGov survey, we found that 88% of the public could not identify the most common method used to kill pigs in British slaughterhouses.

That’s why, today, we’re launching Turn Off The Gas – a new campaign taking on the slaughter industry and directly challenging the Government to shut down gas chambers. Whilst Starmer announced plans for a consultation on the topic back in December 2025, nothing has been launched. Will they simply try to replace CO₂ with another gas, or look into closing down the chambers completely? We don’t know, but we’re demanding answers.

As part of the campaign, we’re calling on supermarket giant, Sainsbury’s, to tell customers the truth. In their latest Animal Health & Welfare Report, they state that gassing pigs to death is “the most humane method of slaughter.”

If you’re so proud of suffocating pigs, tell your customers. We’re calling on Sainsbury’s to label all of their British ‘pork’ products with: "100% of Sainsbury's pork comes from pigs gassed to death."

We are reaching out directly to the company’s CEO, Simon Roberts. Will you join us?

Help us take down gas chambers and shut them for good. We’re starting with Sainsbury’s, but there will be more to come.

As always,

For the animals.
