We have initiated a private prosecution against Cranswick plc

Over the last seven years, we have carried out 27 undercover investigations exposing the hidden reality inside British animal farming facilities. Some investigations are impossible to forget – and Cranswick-owned Northmoor Farm is one of them.

For months, our team reviewed distressing footage from the Lincolnshire pig farm – scenes of heartbreaking, apparent unlawful abuse that no animal should ever endure. We could not look away and we refuse to stay silent. Today, we are asking you to stand with us as we fight for justice for these pigs. Will you join us and make a kind donation today?

After our investigation at Northmoor Farm was released to the public, Lincolnshire County Council Trading Standards concluded that the evidence provided did not meet the threshold for prosecution. The system failed these pigs, but we will continue fighting for accountability and justice. For every piglet who suffered, and every mother imprisoned – we will not walk away.

So now, one year on, we are taking action ourselves.

In what is believed to be a first-of-its-kind case, we have initiated a private prosecution against Cranswick plc under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. Summonses have been issued, and the defendants are due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 26 August 2026.

In this historic move:

  • 23 charges have been laid against Cranswick subsidiary Elsham Linc Ltd
  • 7 charges have been laid against Northmoor Farm Manager, Andrew Pentecost

The charges include alleged offences relating to:

  • unnecessary suffering
  • prohibited mutilations
  • rough handling
  • failures to protect animals from pain, suffering, injury and disease
  • alleged breaches of the Welfare of Animals at the Time of Killing (England) Regulations 2015

After viewing the investigation footage in 2025, Adrian Ramsey MP said:

“The footage from Northmoor Farm is truly sickening. This blatant and disgusting abuse shows disregard for the welfare of these animals and the law. The revolting practice of piglet slamming was outlawed in 2022. Time and time again, government has failed to enforce humane standards through proper spot checks and adequately rigorous prosecution”.

This is a landmark moment – not only for Animal Justice Project and every supporter who stands with us, but for accountability across Britain’s pig industry.

In 2025, our investigation received widespread national media coverage, including the Mail on Sunday and the BBC. It sparked political discussion in Westminster and had a significant financial impact on Cranswick’s market valuation. But none of this happens without people like you.

This is David versus Goliath. We are a small, relentless team standing against a multi-billion-pound corporation – but we are not alone, and we never have been. Every investigation we carry out, every piece of evidence we document, and every legal step we pursue is made possible by supporters like you.

Will you stand beside us and help fund this work?

This case is just the beginning... Thank you for supporting us in our pursuit to get justice for pigs.

As always,

For the animals.
