The 'Kept Animals Bill' must be amended to be inclusive to all species for all purposes

Sign our brand-new petition urging Rishi Sunak to push through the live animal export ban for ALL animals!

We need you to act urgently to put pressure onto the UK government to push through the Animal Welfare (Kept Animals) Bill. Although an end to live exports is in sight, there is a major downside that Rishi Sunak must fix: it does not cover all animals for all purposes. As the Bill currently stands, it only refers to the live export of animals who are destined to be fattened or slaughtered, but critically does not cover any animals who will be exported across the world for breeding (and eventual slaughter). Neither does it cover ANY birds. We are demanding that the government ends the live exports of ALL farmed animals for ALL purposes, including birds and large animal breeding.

MILLIONS EXPORTED

Introduced in 2021, this Bill is part of the UK government's 'Action Plan for Animal Welfare', yet little has been done to 'protect' animals in the UK. Each year, millions of day-old chicks and ducklings are exported across the globe as far as South-east Asia, and thousands of pigs are flown to countries such as China for breeding.

SPECIESIST PROPOSAL

These innocent, sentient animals are made to travel incredibly long distances in crowded conditions, with insufficient water and food supplies and in extreme temperatures. Many become injured and even die during export. This will never be acceptable and all animals must be included in the live export ban. We must get justice for ALL!

Pre-Brexit, we know that 31,000 cows, sheep and goats were exported from the UK to EU countries in 2019. The National Farmer's Union (NFU) states that 95% of these animals were exported for breeding. That equates to 29,450 animals from that year who will receive NO protection under the current live exports ban whatsoever. The year before, 25 million chicks, turkeys and ducklings were exported as far as South-East Asia including Philippines, Malaysia and Bangladesh. This will still be legal under the proposed Kept Animals Bill. With millions of young birds exported and tens of thousands of large animals, how is this a 'live exports ban' when almost all animals who are currently exported will no be protected?

Here at Animal Justice Project, we will not allow this treachery to go ahead without a fight. But we need supporters like you to sign and share the petition and donate if you can. United, we can drive change.

The government is betraying millions of animals every year by not promising an inclusive ban on live exports. Our voices are powerful and so are the animals', and together, we CAN make a difference for everyone.

As always,

For the animals.
