WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Animal Justice Project is seeking a highly motivated Senior Campaigner with strong communications expertise to help amplify our investigations and campaigns to national audiences.
This role focuses on translating Animal Justice Project’s investigations and advocacy work into compelling communications that reach the public, media, policymakers and supporters. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping how our campaigns are communicated externally through press releases, supporter communications, website content and public messaging.
Working closely with the Campaigns Director, investigations team and communications colleagues, the Senior Campaigner will help ensure our campaigns are communicated clearly, accurately and strategically across multiple platforms.
The role will involve writing press materials, preparing media briefings, developing campaign messaging and strategy, managing website updates, drafting supporter communications, and supporting public-facing campaign launches.
While communications is the core focus, the successful candidate will also contribute to the development and delivery of Animal Justice Project’s wider campaigns targeting animal agriculture.
The role requires excellent writing ability, strong attention to detail, strategic thinking, and a clear understanding of how media and communications can drive social change.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Campaign Communications
Write clear, impactful communications to support Animal Justice Project’s campaigns. Responsibilities include:
• Drafting press releases announcing investigations, campaigns, legal actions and policy developments
• Preparing media briefings, quotes and talking points• Writing website articles and investigation reports
• Producing supporter communications including email broadcasts and campaign updates
• Drafting blog posts, op-eds and public statements
• Supporting rapid-response communications on emerging news or industry developments
Ensure messaging is accurate, compelling and aligned with Animal Justice Project’s mission and campaign strategy.
Media & Public Relations
Support the organisation’s media engagement strategy.
• Drafting press releases and distributing media materials
• Preparing media briefings and background documents for journalists
• Monitoring press coverage and identifying media opportunities
• Assisting with the coordination of media launches for investigations and campaigns
• Supporting broadcast interviews and media appearances
• Developing relationships with journalists covering food systems, farming, politics and animal protection
Website & Digital Content
Ensure Animal Justice Project’s website reflects the latest campaign developments and investigation findings.
• Creating and updating campaign webpages and blogs, ensuring accuracy and vision
• Publishing investigation findings and reports online
• Supporting digital storytelling around investigations and campaigns
• Working with the digital team to ensure consistency of messaging across platforms
Investigations Integration
Work closely with the investigations team to communicate findings to the public.
• Reviewing investigation footage, evidence logs and documentation
• Identifying key stories and narratives emerging from investigations
• Translating complex findings into clear public-facing communications
• Supporting the planning and execution of investigation launches
• Ensuring investigation material is presented accurately and responsibly
Supporter Communications
Engage and mobilise Animal Justice Project’s supporters through clear and compelling messaging.
• Drafting email broadcasts and campaign updates
• Communicating investigation findings to supporters
• Supporting public mobilisation initiatives including petitions and campaign actions
• Producing campaign materials including factsheets, leaflets and briefings
Campaign Strategy Support
Contribute to the strategic development of campaigns targeting animal agriculture.
• Supporting the development of campaign roadmaps and objectives
• Conducting research and intelligence gathering
• Identifying opportunities to maximise campaign impact through media and public engagement
• Supporting corporate and political advocacy initiatives where relevant
Partnerships & Collaboration
Support collaboration with external stakeholders.
• Coordinating joint statements and campaign communications with partner organisations
• Supporting relationships with academics, legal experts, campaign groups and sanctuaries
• Assisting with coalition campaigns and joint media work
Monitoring & Evaluation
Track the effectiveness of communications and campaign activity.
• Monitoring media coverage and public engagement
• Assessing communications impact across campaigns
• Contributing to internal reports and campaign evaluations
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Excellent writing and copywriting ability
• Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate complex information clearly
• Experience working with media or shaping public narratives
• Understanding of how communications can support advocacy or campaigning
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to work with sensitive investigative material
• Confidence communicating with journalists, stakeholders and supporters
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
• Experience working in the animal protection, environmental or social justice sectors
• Familiarity with media engagement and PR strategy
• Experience working with investigation-led campaigns
• Understanding of UK farming, food systems or animal welfare policy
• Experience using platforms such as Engaging Networks
• Broadcast or public speaking experience
